AAAAGGGGHHHHH

Holidays... so much expectation that they'll be chilled and restful, but in actual fact they become so much abaout fitting in everything that you haven't managed to do in the last 6 weeks and everything you know you won't be able to get done in the next 8 weeks of term. Time rushes by in an attempt to JUST HAVE FIVE MINUTES PEACE. (I love that book). IF i get this done and this done and this done, THEN i can sit down and do nothing, oh... no, it's bed time... maybe tomorrow...

Having a 'why didn't we just decide to elope' moment today.

I have just returned from a week's residential trip to Somerset with 29 children. Needless to say I slept very well last night and have a headache this morning. I also seem to have lost the ability to write anything down that I would like to say. Sorry.

I will tell you the highlight of the week: Watching lifeguards throw naughty boys and girls off an inflatable water slide. Ah sweet revenge. I laughed.

I am going to do nothing today and tomorow and the day after. Mmmmmmm.

Blogger's Quandary

I always see my blog as a way of snapshotting what is running through my head as I try to make sense of what happens in my life.

However, I have stumbled upon a situation whereby too much information may actually reveal too much of myself to the world. I am not normally proud, and have no trouble sharing my struggles and being real.

So, if you do not want to be totally out off me for life, do not read on. Think the following may be more likely to put boys off.

Some thoughts have been running through my mind this week, namely about horrible body stuff.

1. Farts: have been trying work out the culprit. Am currently investigating Beetroot and Lentils as the cause. However, all the culprits are a) healthy and b) I like them = a dilemma.

2. I went for my dress fitting and have very flabby arm-pit-meets-chest area - investigating toning exercises - any tips?

3. Smelly feet in nice shoes dilemma. Can't wear socks with these, and pop-socks don't do it, but don't want to wear granny shoes. What should I do?

There you go, dunnit! How freeing! Next I'll be buring bras!

On discipline

Having the article about 'Brat Bullies' (previously posted) on my mind, I set about a campaign this week to be Miss Nasty-No-Funny-Business this week. I have never shouted at a child like I did yesterday and almost lost my voice! I have three children in 'Time Out' and all under threat not to go on the residntial next week. If I am perfectly honest, I was seriously worried about taking them.

I had the headteacher and other senior teachers ram it home to them this week and the supply teacher emotionally manipulating them.

I am becoming to realise how much discipline is as much a right of childhood as fun and care etc... It is fairness and about learning consequences and respect. I know this seems obvious, but these children, if they are spoiled at home, have even more of a need for really strict boundaries, or they are going to end up horrible people, arrogant and either running the country and spoiling it or not having a hope in hell.

It also gave me the oppotunity to actually encourage some of them even more when they did well, which was nice as tears welled in their eyes of gratitude for the belief I had in them. Today I remembered why I am a teacher.

As an aside, I have now decided I like peppermint tea.

Mmmmmm Donuts

Hmmmm... Strange thing it is being at work on one's birthday (and without my lovely fiance, ahhh, get the violins out...).

I have been spoiled though, so thanks to Phil and Dad for a sublime BBQ on Saturday, thanks to God for the Sunshine on Saturday, to Chez Dad for cooking a posh dinner tonight, to all those who sent a card (it really is awesome to get real post) and a special thanks to Sarah and CJ who actually sang down the phone to me. My class were monkeys again today, although one did bring me a card, pressie and a balloon!

Ate too many donuts though thanks to staff room etiquette.

As an aside - I watched a nymph hatching into a dragonfly today - a special moment.
